In RDR1 hunting was a bit boring. You basically just go to an area and if you see an animal you shoot it then skin it.

In FarCry Primal this is more advanced. It's harder to hunt animals, but you have a hunter vision which helps you track them, which balances out the difficulty. If you shoot an animal and wound it, it runs off and leaves a blood trail which you can follow. If there is a rare type of animal then it leaves a certain scent which you can track until you find it.

To add to that you can take a form of medicine which masks your scent, allowing you to approach the animal much closer giving you more chance of killing it.

I would like to see a more advanced hunting mechanism in RDR2, which emulates real life hunting more. Stealth, maybe even wind direction etc could affect how you hunt, and increasing your skill levels could allow you to get closer to the animals just through practise.

Just a thought. It would add to the playability, as part of FarCry Primal is hunting all the different and rare types of animals, which is demanding yet enjoyable. Some are harder than others.

Thoughts?

I like the idea of better hunting myself even if I don't like the idea of hunting in real life (unless it's for people lol).

In a way it wasn't too bad in the first game (we could use bait and also stalk to a certain degree) but having it a bit more fleshed out would be nice. One example I can think of is catching smaller game with traps and then using these smaller creatures as bait for larger animals. Probably quite a few ways they could expand on this too (I think old Trevor from GTA V had some unique hunting moments too with wind direction playing a bigger part however I loved hated being stalked myself and then being killed because I was too slow to realize what was happening)

If they want to be true to hunting of the time, all the extra things would make things too unrealistic. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more tracking though. Maybe looking for trails, poop, or other dead animals to locate a specific one. I mean that is what you do in real life even today.

I can't think of the game but there was one that had a lot of hunting/gathering in it. I didn't play the whole thing but I enjoyed the small details from it. Like looking for tracks for one. Then when you finally found the animal you had to sneak up on it. You couldn't just casually walk over. Like think of how deer are in the wild. They know you are around before you know they are there.

Yeah sounds like FarCry Primal to me too.

I think that they don't want all the focus to be in the wilderness though, specially not with RDR2. It is going to be about gangs so a lot of the focus will be likely done in towns and cities.

Judging by the trailer I can't say I agree

Well there will be a lot of open terrain for sure and that is what was being showcased. Small towns and gang hide-outs will be the main focus. Watch.

I don't think that was the game... I don't remember playing that. Then again I don't remember a lot of things anymore. LOL Either way I stand by what I said. I want to see more realistic hunting! Let the bears have brains!!
