With the news of Red Dead Redemption 2's announcement still fresh in everyone's mind, new details about the upcoming game are still bubbling up. While the Rockstar hype-machine appeared for a few days to post a few teaser images and a trailer accompanied by some flavour text, it retreated back and has remained silent ever since, other outlets are revealing some more information.
Most recently, Sony has posted on the official Playstation blog about a special deal made with Rockstar, in order to boost the potential sales of the game on their current-gen home console, the Playstation 4. Similar deals between platform manufacturers ad publishers are somewhat common in the AAA development sphere these days, so overall this should not come as too big a surprise.
We are pleased to announce that PS4 players get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Check back on PlayStation.Blog for more details soon and for all of the latest information on Red Dead Redemption 2.
Luckily we're not talking about timed exclusivity for the entire game, nor will PS4 players have access to content that Xbox One players will never experience. All we're talking about here is that the PS4 will receive Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC earlier than the Xbox One. This likely means that Red Dead Online is going to have a similar DLC model as GTA Online, with the only difference that the updates will launch on PS4 sooner.
The exact details - such as how much sooner the PS4 players will have access to Red Dead Online content - has yet to be posted, as only the vague outline of the exclusive deal has been revealed by Sony so far. We're pretty sure that we won't be looking at a difference much bigger than a week or two.
Not much about Red Dead Redemption 2's Online component has been revealed, other than the fact that it will be a "brand new online experience" - a fact that surprises absolutely no-one. In any case, we're suspecting that Red Dead Online will have many similarities to GTA Online, Rockstar Games' current most lucrative venture.
