While pre-orders for Red Dead Redemption 2 were open on the official game website and the Rockstar Warehouse ever since the initial announcement, fans can now secure copies at a number of retail stores as well (plus Amazon of course). Large promotional displays have been spotted in a number of brick-and-mortar shops.
Following the recent arrival of promotional materials in retail stores, it should come as no surprise that these were followed by more elaborate displays, as well as game cases with placeholder box art used for pre-order purposes.
It should be noted that most, if not all, of the promotional displays spotted so far sport PlayStation 4 branding, which is to be expected considering the special deal Sony has with Rockstar regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 content.
The same promotional art adorns the placeholder box art and the displays as was revealed along with the trailer, depicting seven obscured outlaws and a stylized sunset behind them. Also prominent on the display is an easily misunderstood disclaimer captioned “PlayStation Exclusive”.
Of course, this does not refer to the game, which will launch on Xbox One at the same time as on PS4, but rather downloadable content for Red Dead Online, the multiplayer component. And even then, the DLC is just a timed exclusive, giving PS4 players access a few days earlier than Xbox players.
Playstation exclusive: Get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Details to follow
While no exact release date has been announced yet, we do know that the game is scheduled to be released worldwide sometime this fall, meaning it’s still several months away. This in turn means several more months of anxiety hoping that we don’t need to report any release delays!
Have you already pre-ordered your copy of Red Dead Redemption 2, or will you do so now at your preferred retailer?
